Poplar Ridge Andalusians
POPLAR RIDGE
We are located in Roanoke County, Virginia in the Blue Ridge section of southwestern Virginia. It is a beautiful location with great four seasons and climate.
Horses have always been in our blood. However, there are so many varieties to choose from. So, why did we settle on Andalusians? Simply, they are the best! We checked out a variety of horses during many years prior to establishing the farm. All horses essentially cost the same to keep so I wanted to keep the best. But, what was the best? The Andalusian qualifies quite nicely.
The personality of these animals is regal, animated and yet manageable. They have substance like a "war horse" should have. They have presence! They have hard feet and generally do not need shoeing. This saves lots of money and problems. They are easy keepers and have good manners.
Our farm started in 2000 with the purchase of Matias, our inscribed and revised magnificent black Andalusian stallion. From there we added some company for Matias in the form of a solid black Andalusian mare called Silhouetta TCV.
A trip to Spain in 2001 brought us two more black horses, one mare and one stallion. Our mare, Dibujada V, is solid black of the entrepelado variety i.e. black mixed with some white hairs throughout-essentially a roaned black and very rare. Our imported Spanish Andalusian stallion is a strapping 16'2" solid black, Farruco 52, with bloodlines not generally found in this country and with a marvelous easily manageable personality.
We breed black Pura Raza Espanola Andalusians because the color is elegant. There is a special mystique about the color black. It is much prized in this country and rarely found. We have some of the best available!
We breed for excellence. The Andalusian horse is highly watched for quality, conformation and purity. Our farm is recognized by the Spanish government Ministerio de Defensa with a Codigo de Ganaderia number #20280 as a registered breeding farm. We are members of the International Andalusian and Lusitano Association. All our horses are registered with them.
Our horses and foals are magnificent and personally handled on a daily basis. We love our horses and they, in turn, give us few problems with bad manners.
Call us for your special black beauty! We're sure that you will love them the way we do.
The Horse
The cavalcade of grace now stands
It speaks in silence
Its story is the land
Where in this wide world
Can man find nobility without pride
Friendship without envy,
Or beauty without vanity?
Here where grace is laced with power and strength
By gentleness confined
He serves without servility
He is fought without enmity
There is nothing so powerful
Nothing less violent
There is nothing so quick
Nothing so patient
Our forefathers were born on his back
Our history is his industry
We are his heirs!
He, our inheritance.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Horse!
